'No Dance Partner
Required.'
A Little
about Anya and Anthony
'No
dance partner required' is a common
phrase in many group class
advertisements. It is intended to
communicate a specific message that
anyone and everyone is invited to attend
the class, regardless of the dance
partner status.
I would like to tell a little story
about how I met Anya and how that simple
phrase: 'no partner required'
transformed our lives forever!
Without going into too much details
about our background, you would be very
surprised to know that prior to 2001
neither Anya
nor I had ever stepped on
the dance floor. It was an annual
company formal that really sparked my
interest in dancing and initiated my
desire to take dance lessons. Without a
hesitation, I began searching the
Internet for a dance studio that could
teach me how
to dance.

After several e-mails and phone calls, I
found the Dance Studio Lioudmila in
Alexandria, VA.
I called Lioudmila
Blinov, owner of the Dance Studio
Lioudmila and informed her that I was in
an urgent need to learn Salsa for a
company dinner dance formal that was
only three weeks away. The next day I
was taking my first Salsa lesson! To
make a long story short, I had an
incredible dance experience at the
company formal.

Couple weeks later, I was back on
Lioudmila's website researching
information about group classes. I was
amazed by all the dances available. I
couldn't wait! Then, while reading about
a Cha Cha class, I noticed the phrase:
'no dance partner required.' Dance
partner?!? Hmm. I was a little curious.
Dance Partner? I need a dance partner to
succeed. But, I was again faced with
another dilemma. Where can I find a
dance partner? Within a minute, I was on
the phone chatting with Lioudmila.
She advised
that group classes are a great source for meeting
individuals that are seeking for dance partners! The
very next day, I was attending my first group class.
During the second
Cha Cha group class, approximately 10
minutes into the
lesson, Anya entered the studio,
changed into her dance
shoes, and quietly joined the
group lesson. I thought to
myself, 'No Dance Partner
required. I wonder if she has
a dance partner?'. Well,
the rest is history.
Later that month, we enrolled in our first Argentine
Tango group class together. That fall, we performed an
Argentine Tango in
our very first showcase! 'No dance
partner required.' It can be
the spark that inspires and
changes your life forever!
